The first thing we did when we got the car home was to jack it up and take a look at everything underneath. This is how she looked up on jack stands. The tires have been removed so that the old rusty brakes can be replaced with new ones. The car has drum brakes in the rear and disc brakes in the front.
This is how badly rusted the rear drum brakes were. You can see where pieces started falling off around the edges of the drum.
The disc brakes in the front were not as badly rusted as the drum brakes, but still needed to be replaced. We removed the old calipers, pads, and rotors and replaced them with new ones. Since we wanted to be sure that the wheels would spin after sitting for over 10 years, we also had to re-grease the bearings before putting the new rotors on.
