One of the first things we did was to take the hood off of its hinges and set it to the side for easier access to the engine compartment.  The air conditioner was not working, and so instead of spending the time and money to fix or replace it we decided to just remove it and save some weight.  Since the air conditioner ran through the belts, we needed to get different belts once we removed it.  In order to attach the new belts the radiator, fan, and fan shroud had to be removed.

I installed the new belts to the fan and alternator and put the fan and radiator back on the car.  While working in the engine compartment, we installed a new battery, which can be seen covered by a plastic bag to keep it dry in the picture on the right.
